Reiki is a Japanese technique for relaxation and stress reduction which also promotes healing. It is an ancient, gentle “hands on” healing technique.
This Japanese word means “universal life energy”, the energy which animates us all and is found all around us. The founder of Reiki is Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese physician and monk. Reiki was introduced in the western world by Hawayo Takata in the late 1930’s.
Reiki is used to help rebalance and restore the whole body or whole person, including body, mind, and spirit. It is considered a complementary therapy and works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery. When the body is in a healthy state, Ki is balanced throughout the body and flows evenly. Ki is the energy that animates all living things. Everything alive has ki. When illness or injury is present, ki is disrupted… or “ blocked”. Reiki is used to help rebalance and restore ki to a healthy state, waking up” the body’s ability to heal itself.
During a Reiki session, the practitioner places his or her hands on or near different areas of the patient’s body with the intent to transmit “Ki” believed to be a life for energy. Each session last about one hour with the receiver resting comfortably, fully clothed on a cushioned treatment table. These treatments are safe, and do not involve massaging, pressuring or rubbing the body in any way and are also non invasive.
